German Kati Wilhelm improved from eighth rank at the start to score her third win of the season today. Just one error at the shooting range and great skiing in the incredibly cold Khanty-Mansiysk put Wilhelm ahead of France's Sandrine Bailly, who finished second (two errors, +19.0). Bailly, in turn, went ahead of Russian Olga Pyleva in the World Cup Total Score with just one race left to go. Pyleva's team mate Olga Zaitseva finished third, 22.1 seconds behind Wilhelm, missing two targets.

Ole Einar Bjoerndalen (NOR) won the penultimate race of the season to close the gap behind his friend Sven Fischer (GER) in the World Cup Total Score. Bjoerndalen passed Andriy Deryzemlya (UKR) on the final lap to achieve his twelfth victory of the season. He had a total of four errors and finished just 3.9 seconds ahead of the Ukrainian (two errors). Tomasz Sikora (POL) improved from ninth rank at the start to finish third, just ahead of Fischer. Ole Einar Bjoerndalen stayed cool in an incredibly exciting final shooting session, where he hit all five targets, and eventually cruised to his fourth gold medal in Hochfilzen. He had collected three penalties in the first sessions but repeatedly caught up with the athletes ahead of him on laps two and four. German Sven Fischer put in an incredible final lap and blew past Frenchman Raphael Poiree to win the silver, his third medal of the World Championships. He missed a total of three targets and crossed the finishing line 11.9 seconds after the Norwegian. Poiree had just two penalties and was 20.6 seconds behind Bjoerndalen at the end.

After a dramatic final shooting session and a great fight for the podium spots on the last lap, Norwegian Gro Marit Istad-Kristiansen took the gold. She had three of her four errors today in the final standing shoot but just barely managed to stay ahead of Sweden's Anna Carin Olofsson and Russian Olga Pyleva, who won the silver and bronze medals. 34 year old Roman Dostal (CZE) won the first race of his career today – and is the sensational new World Champion in the 20km Individual. He proved that his early starting number was not a disadvantage today and stormed across the finish line in the total time of 1:00:24.5 hours. Dostal had just one error and was 9.4 seconds faster than German Michael Greis, who confirmed his strong sixth and fifth ranks from the weekend with a silver medal performance, shooting perfectly. His team mate Ricco Gross again proved that he is a true master when it comes to big events returning to the podium for the second time this season and winning his tenth World Championship medal in single races (apart from six in the Relay). Two very unexpected names top the result list of the Women 15 km Individual: German Andrea Henkel wins the Gold medal and repeats her sensational result from the 2002 Winter Olympics. Her better shooting (one error) kept her ahead of China's Ribo Sun (30.2 seconds behind), who even more sensationally won the Silver, the second medal for her team. Sun had two errors and nevertheless defeated Norwegian Linda Tjoerhom (+ 34.3, one error), who won the bronze. (biathlonworld.com)
