The press department of German skiing federation informed, that Peter Sendel has declared end of his biathlete career. Christmas race in Gelsenkirchen, which will take place in December, 28, will be the last in thecareer of 32-years old sportsman. Before the beginning of this season I hoped, that I can continue performance at a high level this season - said competing for biathlon club of Oberhof Sendel. However after the first three stages World cup I have soberly estimated, that my sports form does not allow to carry out those aims, which I set before myself. Therefore I decided to finish my sports career . Peter Sendel debuted in the main team Germany in 1994. Since then he deserved reputation of a great shooter and stable relay fighter. He accounts for 8 medals of the World Championships and Olympic games in relay. A wreath of Sendel`s career became gold in relay during the Olympic games in Nagano in 1998. Sendel 7 times rose on a prize-winning podium in the World cup. It was fine and successful time - declares Thüringer, - but now it`s time for the new chapter in my life . During several weeks Peter have to decide: will he continue to service for biathlon as the trainer.Sendel`s coach legendary Frank Ullrich responded about his pupil: Within last 10 years Peter was an important figure in the world biathlon. Due to the reliable shooting he played a considerable role in the successes of our relay team. Certainly it is always sad, when a magnificent sportsman finishes his career. But I understand his decision. Peter have reached a lot of titles in sport, he`s the World and the Olimpic champion. He havn`t to prove anything himself or someone else. I would like him to continue to work in our sport in the future". (www.ski-online.de).

Russian Vladimir Grigoriev and German Jenny Adler becane a triumphers of the 3rd stage of European cup. They were best in individual as well as in sprint, but Adler shot clear both races. These victories probably can help the biathletes to ocupie places in main national teams.
Good bye, Holmenkollen.
After the
last season had found a rather unusual end, with the final two races
being cancelled because of dense fog at the Holmenkollen, athletes
and organizers again had to improvise at the famous site near Oslo.
When the Ladies were about to begin their 7.5 km Sprint on Friday, a
thick layer of fog was covering the whole area. The organizers tried
every trick in the book to get rid of the white mass and let the sun
shine they installed large floodlights that were supposed to
dissolve the haze. But it was all in vain. The targets at the
shooting range remained invisible. The decision to reschedule the
race and run it the next day was made quickly and it turned out to
be a good one. The sun shone brightly on the athletes on Saturday so
that all of the planned events eventually did take place.

After Uschi Disl's win in the morning, Fischer relied on a strong shooting performance and a magnificent final lap to score the 25th victory of his career in the time of 31:15.97 minutes. Russians Nikolay Krouglov and Sergei Rozhkov fought hard for second place after Fischer managed to separate from a group of four that had taken shape after the final shooting session. Report about sprint races. Review.
Ole Einar Bjoerndalen clearly dominated the Men's Sprint today, winning easily despite an error at the shooting range. His running performance not only left his fellow biathletes behind in amazement but will also raise some attention among the cross country specialists that he is also about to compete with this winter. He won in the time of 22:30.3 minutes, ahead of Russian Nikolay Krouglov (+18.5 seconds), who, just like Frenchman Raphael Poiree (+26.4 seconds), struck all of his targets
German Uschi Disl overcame an error in the prone
and a jammed cartridge in the standing shooting session to win the
first Women's race of the 2004 / 2005 season. Her winning time of
21:04.0 minutes was second to none as her fellow countrywoman
Andrea Henkel followed her in second position, 2.1 seconds behind.
Albina Akhatova lead a Russian threesome in third rank, 3.3
seconds behind Disl. Both, Henkel and Akhatova, were faultless at
the shooting range (www.biathlonworld.com)

The final race of the European cup second without top-biathletes, who didnt start in pursuit remembering about forthcoming World cup debut. But Russian women biathletes were still the best. Julia Makarova and Irina Malgina fought for a victory till the finish line. Younger Makarova was faster by 0,8 seconds. Chineese Liu Xianing was the third. Peter Sendel from Germany celebrated a victory at mens race, having covered the distance, shooting without misses. Russian Pavel Rostovtsev was the second with a 26-second gap. It seems that the two times World champion improves his condition from race to race. Current European cup leader Norwegian Magne Thorleiv Ronning was the third. Norwegian biathletes Ole Einar Bjoerndalen and Frode Andresen took part in the cross country skiing World cup in Finnish Kuusamo. Bjoerndalen was the 10th in 10km free style race, losing 41 seconds to the winner French Vincent Vittoz, when Andresen was only 24-th with 1min 13sec. gap.

Neither Russian Sergei Rozhkov (2nd place), nor the winner of the previous Euro cup race Magne Ronning (3rd place) managed to improve the Polish athletes result. The World cup holder Raphael Poiree was only the 5th . European cup.

Chernousova defeated in a individual duel
the
former leader of European cup Olga Zaitseva.
Now todays winner has 130 points,
when Zaitseva lacks 2 points to catch up
with her. 11/26/2004 Norwegian biathlete Dag Bjoerndalen, older brother of Ole Einars, has made a decision to finish his biathlon career. He seldom passed in the main team of Norway last years, taking part mostly in the European cup, and even in the former years he was not concerned with the biathlon elite. But in fans memory Dag will always stay as a magnificent sniper and a reliable relay fighter. He accounts for some medals of the World Championships and Olympic games in relay. The athlete says, it was the desire to spend more time with his wife and two children that induced him to finish his career. Let`s wish him good luck in a new period of life! 11/25/2004 In the second day of the European cup first stage sprint races took place. Womens top 5 was occupied by Russians only as well as on Tuesday. This time Olga Zaitseva from Moscow won the race with only one miss, Anna Bogali shot correctly, but on last lap she lost the victory by falling 5 seconds behind Zaitseva. The third place with a gap of 23 seconds was occupied by Svetlana Chernousova. The winner of the individual race, Albina Akhatova, with five misses she made, was only 36th. The best among biathletes of other countries was Katja Beer, who finished 7-th. Man's race turned out to be more intriguing. Sportsmen made a lot of misses and as a result Norwegian Magne Ronning became the unexpected winner, despite of 4 misses on the shooting line. The current World Cup owner Raphael Poiree finished the second. Russian Mikhail Kochkin, who got the bronze, was only 3 seconds behind the Frenchman. Russian team leaders two Sergeis Rozhkov and Tchepikov had a day of rest.
11/24/2004 The first races of the European cup that passed in Norwegian Geilo became a triumph of Russian biathletes. Sergei Rozhkov celebrated a victory among men defeating his teammate and namesake Tchepikov by 18 seconds. The third was Norwegian Anstein Mykland. 2 other Russians Dmitry Jaroshenko and Vladimir Grigorev are also in top 6. In the womens race the superiority of the Russian team was even more appreciable. The tempo in this race was firstly set by Svetlana Chernousova, who started under the 2nd number, she served as a reference point for other participants quite for a long time. But she made 2 misses on the last shooting line and fell down to the 5th position only. Albina Akhatova covered the distance more stably and gained the deserved victory in her favourite discipline. Places from the 2nd to the 4th were also occupied by Russians Irina Malgina, Natalia Guseva and Tatyana Moiseeva accordingly. To be fairer, we should say that other biathlon countries started at these competitions with their second teams. 11/21/2004 Site news: Renovation in competitions section. Dream team championship has started. Make your picks. Russian biathlon team, situated now at the final training camp in Beitostolen, is going to start in the full roster at the first stage of the European cup, which will be held not far from there in the Norwegian town of Geilo. The Russian team main coach Valery Palhovsky thinks that European cup starts should help all the athletes to get accustomed to the competitions schedule. He also said that it would be useful for some of his biathletes to start at the second round of European cup on November, 27-28. 11/18/2004

Alexander Os from Norway was the best among men. He made only one miss and left behind his more titled compatriot Halvard Hanevold by 9,3 seconds. The third was Russian Nikolai Krouglov, shooting without mistakes. But he, as well as the fifth to come Phillip Shulman, didnt have enough speed on a cross country race. Such masters of biathlon as Bjoerndalen, Andresen, Berger and Poiree didnt take part in race . They preferred to start in the ski free style 10 km race together with the best skiers of Norway. Lars Berger won the race and outstripped Ole Einar Bjoerndalen only for a half of a second. Frode Andresen was the 5th, and Raphael Poiree came the 15th.
In women biathlon sprint no one could compare with German biathletes. Martina Glagow was the best, and her teammates Uschi Disl and Kati Wilhelm occupied the 2nd and 3rd places, despite of 2 misses. Albina Akhatova was the only athlete from another country in top 5 of this race (4th place). Liv Grete Poiree didnt start neither in the biathlon race nor in the cross country 5km sprint, which was a triumph for the Norwegian skier Marit Bjorgen. The best of biathletes was Olga Zaitseva with 7-th result.
In Muonio races of an unusual format: sprint distance with four shooting lines took place. They were not so relevant as for the starting list. Athletes from Germany, France, Finland and Belarus took part in competitions . Ricco Gross won the mens race, Sandrine Bailly was the best among women.

Ole Einar Bjoerndalen made a demand for returning to
the throne. Men`s Norwegian team dominated yesterday in mass-start.
Race was passed during a strong gusty wind, therefore sportsmen
supposed a lot of misses, on average 10-12 on four shooting lines.
Hosts of the race had adapted faster than others to difficult
weather conditions and already from the first shooting line
Bjoerndalen and Gjelland had taken leadership. However 7 misses on
the last shooting lines didn`t allow Gjelland to keep a leading
position. Excellent speed has provided victory of Bjoerndalen
despite of 7 misses. The second was his compatriot Lars Berger with
the same number of misses, bronze fell to Gjelland`s share. Current
owner of the World cup Raphael Poiree was only 12-th with 10 misses. On the similar race at women took priority At the same time men`s sprint has taken place in finish Muonio, in wich compete athletes from Germany, Finland and some other countries. However contrary to the expectations Finn Timo Antila has defeat all German stars. 11/13/2004 German biathlon team has entered last stage of preparation to the World cup. Today (mass-start) and tomorrow (sprint) in Norwegian Beitostolen will take place test races in which sportsmen from Germany, Russia, Norway and other countries will participate. The main coach of the German women`s team Uwe Mussiggang has declared, that he considers, it`s necessary to take part in this start as approximately 20 from thirty strongest biathletes will start today. Moreover, an experienced specialist defined with the team roster on the forthcoming season. Pretenders on last 2-3 places in team are: the Olympic champion Andrea Henkel, Katja Beer, and also two young biathlete Jenny Adler and Ute Niziak. Likely all of them will take part in test competitions. In doubt only participation of Apel, who is not completely recovered from a flu. The man's part of a German team will continue prepares in Finnish Muonio and won`t start neither today, nor tomorrow. (www.ski-online.de) Fivefold Olympic champion in biathlon Ole Einar Bjoerndalen has declared, that will take part in opening of a cross country skiing season in Norway, and also whenever possible will start in some stages of the World cup in cross country. Bjoerndalen and his bride - Italian biathlete Natalie Santer are training now in Austrian Obertillach. In Bjoerndalen`s opinion, this place located at the altitude of 1400 meters above sea level, ideally approaches for preparation for competitions. Santer said, that after Olympiad - 2006 in Turin she is going to finish her sports career, but Ole Einar plans to compite till the Games of 2010 in Vancouver (www.faster-skier.com) and going to participate in cross country races this season as well. Russia can expect for gold medals on winter Olimpic games of 2006 in Turin in biathlon, ski races and fugure skating. It was declared on Thursday at session of the government of the Russian Federation by the president of Olympic committee of Russia Leonid Tyagatchev. "More than on two gold medals in biathlon we don`t expect ", - said Tyagatchev. Russian fans of sports were convinced on summer Games in Athenes to what result can lead such calculations and reasonings . We can only hope, that this lesson has learned our "respected" officials not only estimate chances of our team soberly, but also to concern to preparation of national team for the main starts of four years with more responsibility. 11/07/2004

According to the chairman of Belorussian anti-dope comission Lyudmila Lukyanskaya, using of furosemide of sportsmen was caused by features of postoperative treatment. Acсording to the toughening of anti-dope requirements the appeal hass few chances for success. From myself I shall add, that similar applications are standard justifications in such cases. Precedents of a recognition of fault by the athlete or Federation in biathlon are very rare, as well as in any other sports. 10/31/2004.
